About Us
Girl.IS (Girls In STEM) - is a project which is aimed to encourage young girls to pursue STEM careers. This project was implemented as a follow-on project from the TechGirls alumna - Sotvoldieva Madina.
Why this project?
Women make up only 28% of the workforce in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and men vastly outnumber women majoring in most STEM fields in college. The gender gaps are high in some of the fastest-growing and highest-paid jobs of the future, like computer science and engineering.
A typical STEM worker earns two-thirds more than those employed in other fields, according to Pew Research Center. And some of the highest-earning STEM occupations, such as computer science and engineering, have the lowest percentages of women workers.
Overall, the percentage of female graduates with core STEM degrees is steadily growing, however, the split is still just 26%.

Girl.Is
On our platform, you can find free podcasts with successful women and girls from Uzbekistan, available in several languages. Also, brief summaries of these podcasts are published in the section "Stories" in English.
Our community: We have a private group in the Telegram messenger, which you can join by sending a request. Group members are both girls and women, who always try to support each other. You can find yourself a mentor or just a friend with similar ambitions.
Resources: We gathered opportunities for young girls to develop in STEM and other spheres: international camps, online immersion programs and even long-term projects and courses. We try to update the resources page as much as possible, but we need your help! If you want to suggest an opportunity, write to us here.
